APPROX. AGE: 9 months old
SIZE & WEIGHT: Medium, 27 lbs
HISTORY/BACKGROUND: Mimi was rescued with her mom who was searching for food in piles of garbage in India, (open garbage sites are plentiful in India) and ate sanitary napkins disposed of out in the open. The mom did not survive most likely due to the trash getting stuck in her body. Mimi somehow survived on her own (a true miracle if you saw the conditions she lived in where there is not food, water, and frequent abuse by humans injuring dogs. Due to fear of humans Mimi, now rescued and arrived in Calgary with her Calgarian rescuer, runs under the bed if humans come into the house. It takes time, but dogs learn, when in a safe and loving environment, that they will not be mistreated and learn to trust and then crave normal human companionship.
TEMPERAMENT & PERSONALITY: She is extremely athletic and active dog, loves food so easy to train her with food.However due to her experience she is fearful of new things and experiences. She is scared of new sounds and sudden movements, however her rescuer is learning to desensitize Mimi to new stimuli like TV, music, sounds in the kitchen, sounds of shoes walking, etc. She is scared of people and the best way to get her comfortable is to completely ignore her and feed her. In a few days she comes around and will come to greet you. Do not recommend her to be around kids or people of old age as she is still a puppy and plays rough, also sudden movements/sounds by kids scare her. Mimi would do well in a home with an older larger dog, one that is well balanced and playful, hence, to help Mimi towards her rehabilitation. Do not recommend a home with cats or small dogs. A larger, playful dog would be very good. An adopter who has the interest and help Mimi on her way towards rehab by taking her to new places, to dog parks, walks down the street and town, around friends and family, car rides, basic training (reward based), and other normal life activities.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Loves to play with toys and is selective of her dog play mates. Need to watch her play with other dogs as she gets quite rough when playing.
