BREED: Husky
GENDER: Female
APPROX. AGE:
SIZE / WEIGHT: Medium (very small medium, approx. 40 lbs)
HISTORY / BACKGROUND: Avi is from an inland, southern California town, which gets very very hot. Over 100 degrees is not unusual. She loves Canada, maybe not the rain so much we are having lately, but far better than extreme heat. Avi is very frisky, playful, and highly intelligent. She is also an escapee artist. Not that she goes anywhere, she wants to stay with you. She likes playing with other dogs and enjoys activities. We think she would make an excellent agility husky!
TEMPERAMENT & PERSONALITY: Avi has strong prey drive towards cats, so no cats in home or in area she would live. Avi is very frisky, playful, overflowing with love, and is determined to get out of the shelter room by any means she can. She's so happy to get attention, but come to leave, she will do whatever she can to get out. This is one, very smart dog with a determined personality, with a downfall of strong prey, especially towards cats. She cannot be in a household or free to run where there are cats.
BEST MATCH: Someone with no cats for one, Avi has strong prey drive towards cats and kittens. Some dogs can be taught cats are part of the household, but not this dog. It's too genetically wired in her....so no cats or even small dogs. Avi needs an adopter who is a leader type, not a pushover. One who can set rules, teach boundaries, take Avi on outings, classes, ability could be good for this girl! Take out in winter for outdoor activities. An adopter with an outdoor lifestyle. Best not suited for homes with kids since Avi is a kid herself and needs attention with training to live up to her potential and be the best pet she can be. She needs someone who has time and enjoys our Canadian outdoor life where they want to take their pet to lakes, hikes, bike riding, basically, everywhere (except, left in a hot car, she would need to go with you.) Avi is so friendly, she would make friends with everyone she meets. We are certain she would be wonderful and loving around kids, all dogs, and cats. We will know more soon, so please check back about that. We think a town or adopter that doesn't go to or have dog parks, since we think she is better in an open, larger acreage, and with another playful dog. Due to her prey drive, we would not trust her at dog parks in case real little dogs were around.
FAVORITE THINGS: Running, hiking, getting belly rubs, and we think, agility classes! Redirect her attention to where you direct her up ramps, through tunnels, through hoops, she would love it! (403) 818-0703
